Koep, Willert Earn Centennial Conference Weekly Honors

LANCASTER, Pa. - Avery Koep and Becky Willert have been named the Centennial Conference Field Hockey Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This marks the first-ever player of the week award for Koep, while Willert brings home the honor for the second time this season.

Koep and Willert guided 18th-ranked Franklin & Marshall (5-0, 1-0 CC) to a 3-0 record last week with wins over Immaculata (8-0), Alvernia (1-0 OT) and Swarthmore (3-0). The Diplomats have now outscored their opponents 21-4 this year.

Koep, a sophomore goalkeeper, posted shutout victories over Alvernia and Swarthmore and played the opening half of F&M's triumph over Immaculata to earn the defensive player of the week honor. Koep totaled four saves on the week and directed the Diplomat defense that has allowed an average of just 6.2 shots per contest.

Willert continued her impressive start to the 2011 season with two two-goal games to win her second offensive player of the week award after just three weeks of play. She notched two goals and an assist against Immaculata last Tuesday and added two more scores in Saturday's win at Swarthmore. The senior forward has now scored at least two goals in four of the team's first five contests.

F&M returns to Tylus Field for its CC home opener against McDaniel (4-0, 1-0 CC) on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 pm.
