LANCASTER, Pa. - Chelsey Talhelm and Avery Koep have been named the Centennial Conference (CC) Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This marks the second straight CC weekly awards sweep for the Diplomats, as both Koep and Becky Willert earned the honors a week ago.
Talhelm and Koep were awarded for their efforts in a 2-0 week for No. 13 F&M, highlighted by a 5-1 road victory against No. 2 Ursinus last Saturday. The Diplomats also downed McDaniel, 4-0, last Tuesday. F&M remains the only unbeaten squad in the CC at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Talhelm recorded a hat trick to lead the Diplomats past Ursinus to earn offensive player of the week honors for the first time. The junior forward now has six goals and two assists on the year, placing her second on the team and seventh in the CC in points with 14.
Koep brings home defensive player of the week accolades for the second straight week after posting a shutout victory over McDaniel and nearly adding another clean-sheet against Ursinus. The sophomore goalkeeper tallied 11 saves on the week, including a season-high eight in Saturday's victory over the Bears. Koep leads the CC in both shutouts (3) and goals against average (0.76) thus far in 2011.
The Diplomats return to the field on Tuesday, Sept. 27 for a non-conference matchup at Susquehanna at 7:00 pm.
