LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College Director of Athletics and Recreation, Patricia S.W. Epps, named head field hockey coach Melissa Mariano Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
"Coach Mariano has shown outstanding leadership abilities as both a coach and as member of the F&M community," said Epps. "I am proud to welcome her to the administrative team."
Mariano came to Lancaster in 2008 and is in her fourth season at the helm of the field hockey team. She is currently third on the all-time coaching wins list at F&M. The Johnstown, N.Y. native previously spent four years as an assistant at William Smith College. Mariano is a 2004 graduate of Middlebury College, where she was a four-year starter and earned womensfieldhockey.com National Player of the Year honors her senior season.
As the SWA, Mariano will serve as the advisor for Athletic Leadership Council, serve as an administrator at events and have Centennial Conference SWA responsibilities.
The designation of SWA is intended to encourage and promote the involvement of female administrators in meaningful ways in the decision-making process in intercollegiate athletics. The designation is intended to enhance representation of female experience and perspective at the institutional, conference and national levels and support women's interests.
