LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall will host SUNY Cortland in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2:00 pm at Tylus Field. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for students with ID's, senior citizens and children.
This marks the fifth overall NCAA appearance for the Diplomats (16-3) and first since 1992, while the Red Dragons (12-6) will be making their 13th straight trip to the postseason. F&M received one of the five at-large bids into the 24-team tournament. SUNY Cortland captured the State University of New York Athletic Conference title to earn an automatic berth.
The matchup between the Diplomats and Red Dragons will be one of eight NCAA First Round contests to be played on Wednesday. The winner of Wednesday's game will face off against Middlebury (14-3) as part of a four-team regional hosted by Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
Host Skidmore (18-1) will take on the winner of Amherst (13-3) and Gwynedd-Mercy (16-4) in Saturday's other Sweet 16 matchup at 10:00 am.
F&M's previous four NCAA appearances occurred in 1981, 1982, 1991 and 1992. The Diplomats finished the Centennial Conference regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, but fell to Ursinus, 2-1, in Sunday's title game.
