LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall landed two players on the ECAC South All-Star Team, with Ilianna Santangelo and Bridget Falcone being honored by the conference. The award is the first such recognition for both players.
Santangelo (Sudbury, Mass. / Saint Marks) earned first-team recognition, her second postseason award of the year after being named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) First Team earlier this month. The sophomore finished the season with the conference's best goals-against at 0.89, while her .793 save percentage was the second-best in the CC and tops among players starting at least half of their team's games. Her seven shutouts tied for the most in the Centennial after recording 73 saves during 1,487 minutes in the cage.
For Falcone (New Canaan, Conn. / New Canaan), who was named to the second team, the honor is the third of the season after already being named to the All-CC and All-region first teams. The senior captain started all 21 contests for the Diplomats in the middle of F&M's vaunted defensive unit. The Diplomats ended the season ranked first in the CC and 14th in the country with a 0.93 goals against average, totaling eight shutouts on the year.
F&M recorded another stellar campaign in 2016, finishing the season with a record of 16-5, 9-1 CC, holding a top-10 ranking throughout the season, and advancing to the program's first Elite Eight in 24 years.
