No. 11 Diplomats Overwhelm Garnet

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The No. 11 Franklin & Marshall's field hockey team overwhelmed Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon 8-0 with five Diplomats tallying goals on the day. 

F&M improved to 7-2, 4-0 CC while Swarthmore fell to 6-4, 1-3 CC.

Sydney Cole got things started for the Diplomats with an unassisted goal in the third minute of play.

Erin Coverdale kept things going, scoring off an assist from Cole in the 12th minute.

Two minutes later, Emily Nagle charged down the field to score an unassisted goal in the 14th minute to extend the lead 3-0.

Cole and Coverdale then reversed roles, with Cole scoring her second goal of the game off a pass from Coverdale in the 29th minute.

Coverdale tallied her second score of the day in the 30th minute unassisted to bring the score to 5-0. 

Nagle quickly turned things around, recording her second goal of the day off another Coverdale assist in the 32nd minute. 

In the last play of the half, F&M was awarded a penalty corner, and Nicole Bodo found the back of the cage with the assist from Melissa Gula to extend the lead 7-0.

Swarthmore came out looking to score to start the second half, but two saves from Ashley Gubernick in the 42nd minute kept the Garnet off the board.

Claire Murphy scored the final goal of the game in the 62nd minute to bring the score to 8-0.

F&M outshot Swarthmore 17-10 and held the advantage in penalty corners 10-7.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday, hosting McDaniel for a 5:00 p.m. contest.
