LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's Sydney Cole and Ilianna Santangelo were named the Centennial Conference (CC) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for field hockey, announced by the league office on Monday. The honor is the second of Cole's career and the third for Santangelo, and the fifth of the season for the Diplomats.
Cole led No. 14 Franklin & Marshall's field hockey team with an overtime goal to beat Ursinus 3-2 and set a new program record on Saturday afternoon. Cole now holds the program record for most game-winning goals with 14 in her career. She passes Becky Willert '12. In a 2-0 week of CC play, Cole tallied three goals, two assists, and one game-winning goal.
Santangelo recorded a shutout in the first half against McDaniel on Wednesday along the way to a 6-1 victory, and recording one save on the day. In the overtime victory at Ursinus, Santangelo tallied eight saves, with two crucial saves in the overtime period.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday, hosting Gettysburg at 7:00 p.m.
