Maloney Wins CC Title; Diplomats and Gallagher Take Second

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Franklin & Marshall’s Meghan Maloney won the 2010 Centennial Conference championship shooting 166 and teammate Grace Gallagher placed second with 169.

In the closest Centennial Conference Women’s Golf Championships to date, McDaniel edged Franklin & Marshall by one shot to earn the team title with a two-round score of 723.

F&M finished with 724, followed by Gettysburg in third with 801, Dickinson in fourth with 831, and Susquehanna in fifth with 851. The finish is the second time the Diplomats were runner-ups in the CC tournament, with a second place finish in 2001. The Diplomats have progressively increased their finish in the tournament over the last four years. F&M turned in back-to-back fourth place finishes in 2004 and 2005 and finished third in both 2006 and 2007.

With Maloney and Gallagher claiming the top two spots, the Green Terror’s Jennie Weiner, Morgan Koopman, and Nicole Cristy swept spots three through five.

Maloney shot 86 in the first round and 80 in the second to tie for the second-lowest score in the CC tournament history. Her total of 166 was 22 over par. Maloney’s title is the second in school history. Elizabeth Boyer earned top honors in 2006.

Gallagher carded 84 in the first round and 85 in the second, for 25 over par and a 169 total.

F&M’s Julia Fiala tied for seventh with 186, and Andrea Huffman scored 203 for a 13th place tie. Saira Dar finished 18th with 225.

As top-five finishers, Maloney and Gallagher were both honored by being named to the All-Conference team.
