Catalano Crowned Champion In Shot Put

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Alyssa Catalano was crowned champion in the shot put, while Megan Hunter tied and reset her school records in the 400m and 200m dash to lead the Franklin & Marshall women's indoor track & field team to a sixth-place finish at the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships on Sunday.

The Diplomats earned 30 points on the second day of competition to finish with 34 for sixth overall out of 10 teams. The men collected 39.5 points over the weekend to take seventh place among nine squads. Haverford repeated as champions on both the men's and women's side.

Catalano, who finished ninth in the shot put in last year's CC championships, recorded a distance of 39-11.25 for the lone gold medal on the women's side. Hunter took silver in the 400m with a time of 59.77 to reset the school record she established last weekend at the Princeton Invitational (59.82). Hunter also finished sixth in the 200m, tying her school record of 26.89.

Erin Gleason and Laura Hansen collected points for F&M. Gleason marked a throw of 36-02.25 for two points and seventh place in the shot put, while Hansen ran 9.96 in the 55m hurdles for eighth overall.

For the men, Freddy Martino led the Diplomats in the field events with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (42-08.25). Steven Tracy was the top sprinter on the day, earning seven points for F&M. Tracy came in fifth in the 200m (23.05) and sixth in the 55m (6.75).

Jake Gomolinski recorded a time of 23.20 in the 200m for eighth and Mike Arnold ran 8.40 in the 55m hurdles, also for eighth.

Kwaku Anno returned after winning the long jump on Saturday, to tie for eighth place in the high jump with a height of 5-09.25.

The women's 4x400m relay team comprised of Hunter, Hansen, Amy Burke and Shannon Weir took fifth out of 10 teams with a time of 4:20.68. For the men, Arnold, Gomolinski, Charlie Bowen and Ryan Bell earned three points in the 4x400 relay, finishing sixth in 3:35.00.
