Hoffman Stops Bullets

Hoffman Stops Bullets

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's freshman keeper, Kelsey Hoffman, turned in a season-high 12 saves to lead the No. 7 Diplomats (14-2, 8-0 CC) to a 9-7 win over No. 6 Gettysburg on Tylus Field. The victory delivered homefield advantage in the Centennial Conference playoffs to F&M, which will defend its four consecutive CC crowns next weekend.

The Diplomats spent most of the game playing catch-up to a two-goal, Gettysburg (12-3, 7-1 CC) lead. Maggie Mae Shields finally knotted it at 6-6 with 16:38 to play before Erin Dunne scored her fourth of the night with 13:29 left to give the Diplomats their first lead since the opening two minutes of play. Hoffman kept the momentum rolling on an extended Gettysburg possession that saw four Bullets' free position shots denied by three saves and an off-target shot before Hannah Church scored her fourth goal of the night, slipping one in just inside of the left post to make it 7-7.

Chruch's eight-meter goal was the sixth and final free position goal of the contest. Both teams scored three times from the fan. Gettysburg had 11 opportunities to F&M's six. Church's equalizer was also the 14th unassisted goal of the contest. The 15th goal of the game, buried by Lauren Selwaski, came after a perfect cross crease feed from Lauren Ehrhardt making it an 8-7 game. Precisely 45 seconds later, Selawski provided the insurance with help from Dunne.

Gettysburg had two possessions in the final five minutes, but turned the ball over twice. Jennifer Noon forced the first turnover, while the second was unforced with 2:30 left in the game. The Diplomats were able to run down the clock to secure the win.

Dunne hit a pair of milestones in the victory on her five-point night. Her second goal of the game was the 75th of her career, while her third counted as her 100th career point. Gettysburg's Church answered Dunne's 75th with her 100th moments later.

The Diplomats will wrap up the regular season at Dickinson on Saturday.
