LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 4 Franklin & Marshall opened the game with an 8-0 run and never looked back, defeating Muhlenberg 17-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Diplomats improved to 6-0, 1-0 CC while the Mules dropped to 5-2, 0-1 CC.
F&M wasted little time getting on the board as Caroline Krohn fed Grace Saliba 53 seconds into the game before Anastasia Mergner and Emily Everdell scored unassisted to put F&M up 3-0 just 1:38 into the contest. Everdell buried a pass from Caroline Doran to make it 4-0 and Grace Saliba found Brittney Jorgenson at 21:59 to put F&M up 5-0.
Gabby Frank made it 6-0 with a goal off a pass from Krohn before Everdell and Natalie Delinsky finished the run with goals two minutes apart to make it 8-0 with 17:40 left in the half. Stephanie Umbach netted three straight for the Mules to make it 9-3, but Frank ended the run with a goal at 11:06. Muhlenberg made it 8-3 before Krohn took over and scored four goals in a row for the Diplomats. Two scores came in the final four minutes of the half to give F&M an 11-4 lead at the break.
Krohn continued her run with two straight in the opening seven minutes of the second half to make it 13-4 at 23:39. Stephanie Speese assisted on the first goal and Krohn scored on a free position for the second goal. Mary Mitchell hooked up with Casey Madden at 17:50 to give F&M a 14-4 lead at 17:50 before the teams exchanged goals the remainder of the game.
Umbach put one through for the Mules at 14:39 and Kimberly Abruzzo made it 15-5 with an unassisted tally at 13:49. Kayleigh Thies scored the last goal for Muhlenberg at 9:17 before Madden and Claire Jackson netted the final two scores for the Diplomats.
Kelsey Hoffman improved to 4-0 with seven saves and Kiersten Mulvey took the loss with 12 stops and fell to 5-2 on the season.
F&M returns to action tomorrow when the Diplomats travel to No. 1 Salisbury for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
