LANCASTER, Pa. – No. 6 Franklin & Marshall defeated Dickinson 20-10 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats ended their regular season at 14-4, 8-1 CC, while the Red Devils fell to 9-8, 4-5 CC.
After F&M opened the contest with a free position goal by Emily Everdell just two minutes in, Dickinson answered with a pair of goals to go ahead by 2-1 with 23:50 remaining. Brittney Jorgenson buried a pass from Grace Saliba to knot the game at 2-2 before Natalie Delinsky scored her ninth of the season to put the Diplomats back out in front at 3-2.
The Red Devils once again tied the contest with an unassisted goal at 18:53, but F&M responded with a run of six unanswered goals to close out the half, including three in the final minute of the frame to make it 9-3 heading into the second.
The Diplomats' offense picked up right where it left off in the second, tallying three goals in the opening three minutes for the commanding 12-3 advantage. Dickinson never came within more than six goals as F&M's Claire Jackson closed out the game with the Diplomats' final tally at 1:32 remaining.
Megan Kelly came away with four draws, while Anastasia Mergner collected three ground balls. Christie Bonfiglio, Ali Kelly, Mary Mitchell and Emily D'Erasmo both picked up a pair of ground balls on the afternoon.
Kelsey Hoffman (12-4) earned the win after registering three saves, while Dickinson's Tara Cuddihy (2-2) took the loss after stopping six saves.
F&M has locked up the No. 2 seed heading into next weekend's CC Tournament and must wait to see which opponent it will face off against on Saturday. Check back with GoDiplomats.com next week for up-to-date information.
