SWARTHMORE, Pa. – No. 4 Franklin & Marshall defeated Swarthmore 13-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 5-1, 1-0 CC while Swarthmore fell to 5-1, 0-1 CC.
F&M went up 1-0 when Paige Moriarty fed Natalie Delinsky early in the first, but Swarthmore quickly answered and tied the game with a score at 23:40. F&M went back out front when Melissa Judge struck on a free position before the Garnet again tied the game at 2-2. The Diplomats answered with seven straight to take the lead for good and went into the break with a 9-2 edge. Gabby Frank had three scores in the run while Maddie Hughes, Grace Norley, Katie Groenke and Moriarty all struck once.
The Garnet scored first in the second, but F&M answered with four goals and took a 13-3 lead with 8:14 left to play. Moriarty fed Groenke and Delinsky on the first two scores before burying a pass from Hannah Serling at 9:34. Eileen Cuneo found Caroline Kolva for the final point and Swarthmore snuck in two goals to end the game.
Moriarty finished with two goals and five assists, Frank tallied three while Delinsky and Groenke both finished with a pair of goals. Judge, Kolva, Norley, and Hughes all had scores with Groenke, Siobhan Burke, Cuneo, Serling and Norley all ending with an assist.
Kolva came away with five draws while Judge and Vanessa Budd both finished with four draws each.
Danielle Harrington improved to 5-1 with eight saves in net and Betsy Cohen took the loss with 11 stops for the Garnet.
F&M outshot Swarthmore 29-21 and went 14-for-18 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when F&M hosts No. 10 Salisbury at 2:00 p.m.
