Rams Shutout Diplomats
LANCASTER, Pa. - Farmingdale struck early and never looked back, defeating Franklin & Marshall 2-0 in the first round of the 2009 F&M Kickoff Classic. The Rams' (4-2) Jamie Smith found Katrina Cerverizzo for the one-timer in the ninth minute for the first goal of the game. F&M (2-2) could not mange a shot on goal throughout the game.
The Rams scored again in the 35th minute when Theresa Martorano fire a shot from outside of the box that bounced over Katie Golding hands.
Golding stopped three shots in taking loss, bringing her record to 2-2. Farmingdale's Stacey Rao picked up her first win of the year.
The first game saw Widener's Brittany Balentine score the game winner nine seconds into double overtime, lifting the Pride to a dramatic 2-1 win over Buffalo State.
Franklin & Marshall will face Buffalo State at 1 P.M. in the consolation game. Farmingdale will go against Widener in the championship game afterwards.
