LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's soccer team battled Muhlenberg to a 0-0 2OT tie on Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field in the Centennial Conference (CC) opener for both squads.
The Diplomats moved to 3-2-1, 0-0-1 CC while the Mules now sit at 2-3-1, 0-0-1 CC.
After 90 minutes of action, neither team managed to light the scoreboard thanks to stringent defensive efforts from both sides. Shots belonged to F&M by a 10-5 margin after 90 minutes, as well as corners at 4-3.
The Diplomats saw their best opportunity with just 14 minutes remaining in regulation when Allison Klei broke behind the Mules' backline and collected a bouncing ball in the box. F&M's freshman forward fired a look on net but sailed the chance just wide to the left.
With a minute left in the second overtime stanza, a Muhlenberg turnover in its defensive third led to an open look for Lauren Kranis, but her attempt on goal sailed high as the contest ended in a draw.
Gabby Panayotakis (3-2-1) was strong in net, recording four saved in 110 minutes of competition for her fourth shutout of the season. Her counterpart Libby Juliano (1-1-1) stopped both attempts that came her way.
F&M dominated the overtime periods with a 6-1 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corners. Reanna Leoni led the Diplomats' offense with four shots while Anna Goorevich, Hannah Robertson, Kyra Judge and Isabella Raspa tallied two a piece.
CC play picks back up on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Dickinson for a 7:00 p.m. game.
