McDaniel sweeps doubleheader from Franklin & Marshall
WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Brittany Jarboe notched three hits and three runs scored to lead McDaniel to a doubleheader sweep of Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Tuesday.
The Green Terror (11-6, 2-0 CC) took the opener 3-2 before needing nine innings in game two to complete the sweep, 8-7.
Jessica Feldman and Lauren Incorvaia rapped out four hits apiece to pace the Diplomats (12-10, 2-4 CC), who built a 7-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning of the nightcap before surrendering the lead in the bottom of the frame.
Jarboe led off the inning with a single before Jordan Beans sacrificed her to second. After a Samantha Staub single up the middle plated Jarboe, Lauren Toomey drew a walk to put runners at first and second.
An Erinne Warrenfeltz loaded the bases before an error allowed both Devon Fogarty a pinch runner for Staub and Toomey to score with the winning runs.
In a game filled with nine combined errors and 13 unearned runs, Franklin & Marshall took advantage of a first-inning miscue with an Incorvaia double and Kristina Fietkiewicz RBI groundout to build an early 2-0 lead.
A pair of third-inning Diplomat errors led to five unearned runs, giving McDaniel a 5-2 lead.
A Feldman double and Fietkiewicz run-scoring single pulled the visitors within 5-3 in the top of the fifth.
An error and Kelly Marchisio double keyed a top of the seventh that knotted the game and forced extra innings. Back-to-back errors and a Samantha Basuk two-run single gave Franklin & Marshall a two-run lead in the top of the ninth.
In the first game, the Green Terror grabbed a 3-0 lead after two innings with three unearned tallies.
A Marchisio single and Caitlin Elfring double in the third pulled the Diplomats within 3-1.
Mancino and Incorvaia combined a single run in the top of the seventh but could not push the tying run across.
