Diplomats Sweep Immaculata

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LANCASTER, Pa. – Liz Chudzik and Sara Damato limited Immaculata to 11 hits in two games as Franklin & Marshall swept the Mighty Macs in a softball double header Tuesday. The Diplomats needed only five innings to win the first game by a 10-0 margin, and won the second game by a score of 6-2. F&M evened its record to 3-3, while Immaculata fell to 1-6.

The Diplomats exploded to an early 6-0 lead off of five hits in the first inning of game one. Danielle Murphy doubled to left field and made her way to third. Caitlin Elfring singled and sent Murphy home to get the ball rolling. Julianne Whitleigh picked up two RBIs when she singled to center field and plated Kelly Marchisio and Chudzik. Murphy stepped up once again and doubled to left center field, sending home Sara Damato and Whitleigh.

Immaculata got off two hits in the second frame but could not find home plate. The Diplomats, on the other hand, added four more runs to the score board. Megan Pauley singled to left field to get on base, stole second, and advanced to third on an illegal pitch. Elfring stepped up and singled to right center and Pauley touched home. Whitleigh tripled to right center and nabbed two more RBIs, scoring Alyssa Yackle and Chudzik.

Action remained scoreless for the rest of the innings and F&M took its first win of the day. Chudzik earned the win, fanning three batters. She allowed seven hits and recorded no errors.

Nikki Curcione took the loss, allowing 11 hits and walking three. Curcione struck out one.

Game two slightly mimicked the first. F&M jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings. Pauley notched the first run when Marchisio singled with the bases loaded. Pinch running, Karalynne Clark stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball, as Damato ran home. Murphy singled and Clark ran home.

The Mighty Macs eventually answered with two runs in the fourth frame. Melinda Monastra doubled to center field to plate Carol Mastrosante and put Immaculata on the board for the first time. Allison Zborowski singled as Megan Gallagher scored.

F&M countered with three more runs in the fourth to nab the final points of the contest. Murphy, a powerful hitting force all afternoon, tripled to right center field and collected two RBIs. Elana Jaret and Whitleigh each touched home. Pauley then grounded out to short stop as Murphy picked up a run.

Damato garnered the win in the second game, striking out six and allowing only four hits. Zborowski was saddled with the loss, allowing eight hits, walking two, and striking out one.

Whitleigh led all scorers with three runs and four RBIs on the day. Murphy tallied five RBIs and two runs.
