Sweeney Sets Pool Record at Ursinus
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall freshman Samantha Sweeney set a new pool record at Ursinus swimming to a 2:32.86 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sweeney was swimming as an exhibition entry in the race as F&M had already secured its Centennial Conference (CC) victory. The Diplomats (5-4, 4-0 CC) downed the Bears (5-5, 1-4 CC) 113-84.
The record was one of several feathers in Sweeney’s cap on the afternoon. She helped the Diplomats start the afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Sweeney joined Brittany McCabe, Jennie Payne and Meghan Karanian for a 1:54.64 in the 200-yard medley relay. Sweeney also added second place points in the 200-yard individual medley. First place went to Sweeeny’s classmate, Katherine DeCrosta.
First-year swimmers accounted for wins in three additional
races. Garland Bartlett won the 1,650-freestyle by 24 seconds with
a time of 18:35.41, and took the 500-yard freestyle with a time of
5:29.14. Olivia Hill won the 200-yard freestyle, followed by
sophomore Laura Bassford.
Bassford, Hill and Emily Zacherl went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard fly
with Bassford touching at 2:18.16. McCabe won the 100-yard free in
54.80.
The Diplomats won all but one race before going into exhibition mode.
F&M returns to the pool next Friday night against McDaniel.
First race is set for 6 p.m.
