Women Open Centennial Slate With Win
BRYN MAWR, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's women took first and second place in seven of the first nine races to cruise to a 127-72 Centennial Conference (CC) swimming win at Bryn Mawr on Friday. The win was F&M's first of the season and on the Centennial docket.
The Diplomats (1-1, 1-0 CC) set the tone immediately with Krista Hollingsworth, Lili Shainis, Alexia Tomlinson and Rebecca Daen combining for a 4:19.12 in the 400-yard medley relay. The F&M quartet had four seconds on the Diplomats' "B" entry of Wendy Wolff, Rebecca Citti, Garland Bartlett and Jackie Behr. That group owned a nine-plus second cushion before the Owls' (0-2, 0-2 CC) top entry wrapped up.
After the opening relay, Olivia Hill and Maggie Johns kept the early momentum going with a one-two punch in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Hill registered her final touch at 10:49.54, with Johns following at 10:53.05. The first Owl found the wall 1:05 later.
The early run on points continued through the third and fourth races. Daen owned the third event, the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.45 followed by teammate, Caitlyn Fuller at 2:05.45. Behr gave then gave the Diplomats first place points in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.38, followed by Ana Franzluebbers at 26.37. Behr later captured the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.86.
Bryn Mawr's Meredith Davis broke up the early run with the first of her pair of wins on the night. She swam the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.18 giving her a six-second win over F&M's Courtney Gregor. Davis later narrowly edged Katherine DeCrosta in the 100-yard freestyle. The pair was split by .04 seconds with Davis logging a 55.64.
Hollingsworth got F&M back on track following the 100 free. She was the first to the wall in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:05.18, followed by Wolff at 1:05.80. Fuller and Emily Zacherl went one-two in the 500-yard freestyle to put the meet on ice. Fuller posted a 5:28.87 for the win.
Shainis, Citti and Catherine Shaw logged the top three times swimming exhibitions in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Wolff, Hill, Tomlinson and Daen also logged the top time swimming in an exhibition in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Diplomats return to the water next Saturday at Swarthmore.
