LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall defeated Rochester, but fell to Carnegie Mellon and Washington & Lee in a quad meet at McGinnis Pool on Saturday. F&M downed Rochester 148-114. CMU handed F&M a 164-93 setback, while W&L toppled the Diplomats (4-4) 154-108.
Olivia Hill paced the Diplomats on Saturday. She finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.80. First place went to CMU's Molly Evans in 5:07.40.
The Diplomats scored points in the 1,000-yard freestyle thanks to a second place finish by Hill and a fourth place finish by Maggie Johns. Hill logged a 10:54.01, followed by CMU's Jen Sung at 10:57.62. Johns touched fourth at 11:03.11. The Tartans' Evans won the race with a blistering 10:27.53.
Hill finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 2:01.46, with teammate, Ana Franzluebbers, just behind at 2:01.69. Carnegie Mellon's Soleil Phan won with a 1:56.83.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Diplomats got third and fourth place finishes from Rebecca Daen and Jackie Behr, respectively. Carnegie Mellon again took the top spots with Brianne Burton swimming a 24.95, followed by teammate Breanna Stillo .43 seconds later. Daen wrapped up the lap in 25.59, .09 seconds in front of Behr.
Franzluebbers and Daen took third and fourth in the 100-yard free with respective times of 55.39 and 55.56. It was Carnegie Mellon in first and second with Phan leading the charge at 54.81. Burton touched second at 55.01.
Katherine DeCrosta took third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.63. She was exactly three seconds off of the pace of Washington & Lee's Lauren Kasoff.
F&M ended the day with a strong showing in the 400-yard free relay. The team of Krista Hollinsgworth, Daen, Johns and Franzluebbers placed third in 3:47.43. F&M's "B" entry took fourth. Behr, Maddy Tambussi, Alexia Tomlinson and Garland Bartlett swam a 3:53.24. W&L took first in 3:44.41, followed by Rochester at 3:46.19.
The Diplomats return to action on December 4th for the annual F&M Invitational.
