LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's women's swimming team begins its bid for a fourth Centennial Conference (CC) Title this Friday when the CC Championships begin at 11:00 a.m. at F&M's Kunkel Aquatic Center. The Diplomats will host all six sessions, two per day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as the conference gathers to crown team and individual champions. F&M looks to earn its first team crown since 2010 after finishing second and third during the last two seasons.

Championship History

Gettysburg has historically dominated the team championships, winning 14 team titles in 22 seasons of competition. Ursinus ('14, '15, '16), who enters the weekend looking to four-peat, and F&M ('04, '05, '10) are the only other teams to win more than two, having claimed the crown three times each.

Last year, the Bears tallied 846 points to win, followed by Gettysburg in second with 659.5, while the Diplomats took third with 518. Ursinus again enters this year's competition as the favorites after topping the CC duals standings with a mark of 9-0, 7-0 CC.

Medal Hunt

Melissa Mullin returns for her third championship meet as F&M's only returning individual champion from last season. She is seeded highly in four events, most prominently in the 400-yard IM. She enters as the favorite in the event, as her time of 4:39.40 is more than five seconds faster than the second seed. Rebecca McCain is seeded eighth with a time of 4:52.75.

Mullin is seeded third in the 200-yard breaststroke, recording the third-fastest time in the conference this year at 2:26.72. Michelle Wall enters as the eight seed at 2:29.91. The same pair are featured for F&M in the 100-yard breaststroke, where Mullin is seeded fifth (1:07.59) and Wall is sixth (1:08.64). In the 200-yard IM, Mullin is seeded fourth with a time of 2:14.61, while Anna Hess is sixth at 2:15.01.

Hess is heavily involved in the medal conversation in the backstroke events as well, entering the 200-yard backstroke as the top seed. Her time of 2:07.00 is the conference's fastest time this year by more than half a second. She also ranks second in the 100-yard edition with an entry time of 58.73.

Grace Pereles looks to make her mark in the distance freestyle events as she is seeded in the top five of three different competitions. She comes in as the favorite in the 500-yard freestyle, as her time for 5:09.28 is the fastest in the conference this year. Caroline Fry is the eight seed at 5:17.60.

Pereles and Fry are again paired up in the 1,650-yard freestyle, as both are seeded in the event's fastest heat. Pereles is seeded third with a time of 10:49.84, while Fry is the four seed with a mark of 10:54.49 (both times are from the 1,000-yard freestyle). In the 200-yard freestyle, Pereles (fourth, 1:57.61) once again leads the F&M charge, followed by Katherine Hirsch (11th, 1:59.81) and Diane Wagner (13th, 2:00.27).

Colleen Lawlor mounts a medal challenge in the 100-yard butterfly, as her time of 1:00.09 is good for the sixth-fastest in the CC this year.

In addition to challenging in the 200-yard freestyle, Hirsch will lead the Diplomat effort in the 100 where she is seeded eighth with a time of 54.69.
