Five Set to Go For Gold At Day Two Finals

LANCASTER, Pa. – Five Franklin and Marshall women's swimmers will compete in A finals tonight and 10 Diplomats will compete overall at the Saturday finals of the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships. Finals in seven events offer F&M opportunity to move up from sixth place in the team standings heading into Sunday.

Two Diplomats found their way into the A final of the 400-yard IM, led by two-time reigning champion Melissa Mullin, who qualified second with a time of 4:39.86. She will be joined in the hunt for gold by Kellen McDonald, who finished in 4:46.20 to take eighth.

Grace Pereles continued her excellent conference meet in the 200-yard freestyle, leading a group of three F&M swimmers into the finals. Pereles will battle for gold after qualifying seventh with a time of 1:57.49, while Katherine Hirsch (12th, 1:58.88) and Caroline Fry (13th, 1:59.14) will compete in the B final.

Michelle Wall will go for gold as well in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting the sixth-fastest time of the prelims with a mark of 1:08.09. Erin Smith will also compete in the event tonight after qualifying 15th with a time of 1:11.58.

Colleen Lawlor reached the medal round of the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 59.39 to take eighth and edge her way into the top final.

Anna Hess and Samantha Hershey will both compete in the B final of the 100-yard backstroke, as Hess qualified ninth with a time of 59.71 and Hershey took 13th 1:00.97.

Competition picks back up tonight at 6:00 p.m. featuring finals of the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and 800-yard freestyle relay.
