Diplomats Close Season With Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall’s women’s tennis team closed out the 2009 tennis season with a 6-3 win over Swarthmore Saturday afternoon.  Dana Russo and Valeri Harteg each went 2-0 for the Diplomats (3-12, 3-7 CC). Two-thirds of the Garnet’s (5-10, 4-6 CC) wins came in doubles competition.

Russo and Harteg (5-7, 4-6 CC) combined for the Diplomats lone doubles win in the second position. They conspired to topple Alexis Hickman and Kathryn Stockbower 8-5. Russo (4-11, 3-7 CC) claimed a third singles victory over Alexis Hickman in three sets. After dropping the first set 6-4, Russo went unscathed in the second set, then took the final set 6-4. Harteg (7-12, 5-5 CC) continued to plague Stockbower in singles competition posting a 6-3, 6-3 win in the fourth flight.

Kelsey Tylus (7-8, 4-6 CC) dropped a single game in her win over Luann Cignavtich at second singles. Shannon Littlefield (6-11, 3-6 CC) won her match at fifth singles by an identical score, while Nicole Martino (3-12, 2-8 CC) dropped just two games in her win over Cindy Luu.
