Women's Tennis Finishes 3-2 in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Franklin & Marshall women’s tennis team went an impressive 2-1 in its final matches to wrap up the spring break trip in Florida. The squad improved to 4-2 on the year.

The Diplomats earned a 6-3 victory over Minnesota State-Moorhead. Danielle Weiner paved the way, gliding past Emily Delany 6-2, 6-2, and Katie Ertel defeated Jennessa Winey 6-2, 6-4.

Dana Russo and Valeri Harteg were the only doubles team to earn a victory, defeating Delaney and Susan Gilkerson 8-2.

F&M went on to hand Concordia a 7-2 defeat. Shannon Littlefield slid past Lindsey Heine 6-0, 6-2, and Harteg beat Jackie Ward by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Ertel blanked Katie Fox 6-0, 6-0.

Harteg and Weiner teamed up to deliver the sole doubles victory, handing Katie Mooney and Lauren Taugher an 8-0 defeat.

In the final match, St. Scholastica overpowered the Diplomats by a 7-2 margin. Weiner took Katie Motley into three sets, earning the victory 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5). Ertel also went into three sets, earning a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (8) win over Kelly Ross. Harteg handled Angela Shields for a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

F&M opens Centennial Conference play at McDaniel on March 23. The first match is slated for 4 p.m.
