Volleyball Earns Academic Honor

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall College’s volleyball team earned academic honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Only 78 of the 422 volleyball teams competing in NCAA Division III earned the distinction.

The AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams at the high school and college level that are successful in the classroom. Nominees include high school or college teams that have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) or 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) during the full academic year (both semesters or all quarters), and include all varsity athletes who competed in volleyball with the institution for any portion of the academic year.

The Diplomats posted a team GPA of 3.42 during the 2008-2009 academic year. F&M was one of two Centennial Conference teams to earn the honor. Bryn Mawr was the other squad recognized. The 2009 version of the Diplomats will open their season on September 2 at Elizabethtown.
