Diplomats Win Thriller

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—In a rematch of the 2010 Centennial Conference (CC) championship, Franklin & Marshall held off a pesky Swarthmore team in a five-set thriller Wednesday night.  The Diplomats (6-7, 4-0 CC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 27-25 and 25-20 victories, only to see the Garnet (13-4, 1-1 CC) come back to tie the match on the strength of 25-19 and 25-22 wins.  The fifth set went back and forth until the Diplomats finally pulled it out with a 15-13 win.

Julie Harvey led the way for F&M, recording a team-high 27 kills, and a .490 hitting percentage.  Kerry Rom and Sydney Seydel added 14 and 12 kills, respectively.  Rom also added a team-high 29 digs.  Four other Diplomats were in double figures in digs, as the team finished with 113, the highest total since recording 113 against Grove City on Sept. 29, 2007.

Caroline Hubbard helped set up the offense by notching 54 assists.

Franklin & Marshall will look to keep the momentum going this weekend, when the Diplomats host the F&M Scramble.  F&M will take on Ithaca Friday night at 7 p.m., before facing Marywood and Frostburg State on Saturday.
