Diplomats Hold Off Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa.—Franklin & Marshall won its second straight match Wednesday night, holding off Muhlenberg in a 3-2 thriller in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action.  The Diplomats improve to 11-8, 6-1 CC while the Mules drop to 6-13, 4-3 CC.  The win also allows the Diplomats to keep pace with Johns Hopkins and Gettysburg at the top of the CC standings.

It looked like it would be a short night, as the Diplomats jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of 25-18 and 25-20 victories.  However, the Mules would not go away, as they rallied to even the match with 25-21 and 25-23 wins.  The fifth set went back and forth before F&M pulled out a 15-13 win to capture the match.

Julie Harvey once again paced the Diplomats offense, tallying 22 kills and a .304 hitting percentage.  Jessica Poucel added 11 kills to go along with five digs.  Caroline Hubbard notched her second straight double-double, adding 39 assists, and 14 digs.  Defensively, Hubbard, Caitlin Krutsick, Katy May, and Lis Power recorded double-digit dig totals.  Hubbard and May had strong service games, recording four services aces each.  As a team, the Diplomats racked up 16 aces.

F&M will head down to Salisbury this weekend for a tournament with Oneonta State, Richard Stockton, and host Salisbury.  On Saturday, the Diplomats will face Salisbury at 3 p.m., and Richard Stockton at 5 p.m.  On Sunday, F&M will face Oneonta State at 9:30 a.m., and an opponent to be determined at 11:30 a.m.
