Diplomats Conclude Play at Marcia French Memorial Tournament

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Franklin & Marshall fell to John Carroll and Westminster (Pa.) on the final day of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament on Saturday in non-conference volleyball action.  The Diplomats lost 3-0 in tight sets against John Carroll before losing a thriller to Westminster (Pa.), 3-2.

F&M battled John Carroll in each set throughout the match, but could not find an answer for the Blue Streaks.  The score was tight in the first set but John Carroll pulled out to an early lead with a 25-22 score.  In the second set, the Diplomats battled to tie up the match but were narrowly defeated by a 29-27 count.  Needing a win in the third to stay alive, F&M kept the score close before eventually dropping the set and the match, 25-21.

Caroline Hubbard paced the Diplomats offensively with 24 assists, while middle hitter Katie Foreman added eight kills.  On defense, Alyssa Sanchez tallied 18 digs in the losing effort.

Against Westminster (Pa.), F&M looked to be in control after taking the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22.  However, Westminster (Pa.) came storming back to take the next two sets 25-10 and 25-21. In the deciding fifth set, the Titans pulled away with a 15-10 win to hand the Diplomats their second loss of the afternoon.

Setter Caroline Hubbard filled the stat sheet for F&M, recording 13 kills and 28 assists.  Rosalie Frank chipped in 10 kills on offense. Sanchez paced the defense with 19 digs, while Kerry Rom added 14 of her own.  As a team, the Diplomats combined for 46 kills and 69 digs.

Sanchez earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her performance throughout the weekend.
