ANNVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall cruised past Gwynedd Mercy in a 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-15, 25-16) on Friday night in non-conference volleyball action at the Lebanon Valley Tournament. The Diplomats stayed perfect and moved their record to 5-0, while the Griffins fell to 2-5.
F&M dominated the opening set, taking it by a score of 25-8. The Diplomats recorded 13 kills in the set to go along with an impressive .458 hitting percentage and committed just two errors as a team.
In the second, the Griffins made it slightly more difficult for F&M, but the Diplomats still won the set fairly easily at 25-15. 15 kills and a .393 hitting percentage helped F&M toward the second-set victory.
The third was similar to the second, as the Diplomats won 25-16. F&M capped off a victorious night with a .308 hitting percentage and 12 kills in the third.
Katie Foreman and Cassie Garison led the Diplomats with eight kills apiece, while freshman Jaclyn Laforgia notched seven and Rachel Umberger six. Allison Edelstein compiled 24 helpers, while Shae Murphy led F&M with six digs.
The Diplomats continue the Lebanon Valley Tournament tomorrow with matches against Penn St. – Altoona (11:00 a.m.) and host school Lebanon Valley (2:00 p.m.).
