Diplomats Pick Up Split

ANNVILLE, Pa. – At the Lebanon Valley Tournament on Saturday, the Franklin & Marshall volleyball team went 1-1, sweeping Penn St. – Altoona 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-23) before falling to host school Lebanon Valley by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-13) in non-conference play. The Diplomats' record now sits at 6-1, while the Nittany Lions fell to 1-8 and Dutchmen improved 7-1 mark. 

In the first match against Penn St. – Altoona, F&M opened with a 25-15 win in the opening set. The following set was similar to the first with the Diplomats winning 25-14 with only two errors.

The third set was tight, but F&M still went on to win 25-23 and had 16 kills, the most of any set all day.

Ellie Ezekiel paced the offense with nine kills, while Jaclyn Laforgia posted eight. Caroline Hubbard and Allison Edelstein had 15 and 13 assists respectively, while Alyssa Sanchez notched 10 digs.

Later in the day against Lebanon Valley, the Diplomats took the first set by a score of 25-15, only to see the Dutchmen knot the match at 1-1 after a tight 25-23 win in the second. 

In the third, F&M battled and recorded 13 kills, but lost the set 25-19. Lebanon Valley then won the fourth set at 25-13 and gave the Diplomats their first loss of the season.

Senior Julie Harvey tallied 11 kills, while Laforgia had eight. Ezekiel (15) and Sanchez (14) led the team in digs, while Hubbard added 35 helpers. 

F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to take on Susquehanna at 7:30 p.m.
