SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall fell to Susquehanna 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-18) in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday night. The Diplomat slipped to 6-2, while the Crusaders improved to 8-1.
The first set was close early on with the Diplomats leading 10-7. But, Susquehanna went on a 5-2 run, including three kills from three separate players to open up at 12-10 lead. The Crusaders never let F&M get closer than three points to take the first 25-18.
It was another tight set in the second as Susquehanna led 13-12. The Crusaders extended their lead and held off a late Diplomat push to take the set 25-17.
It was a back-and-forth battle in the third with the score tied at 12-12 before Susquehanna's Erin Byrne's kill gave the Crusaders a 13-12 advantage. Both continued to exchange points as Susquehanna led 20-17 before opening up a 23-17 lead that the Diplomats could not battle back from as the Crusaders won the final set 25-18 to complete the sweep.
F&M returns to the court Saturday for a tri-match in Owings Mills, Md. The Diplomats will take on host school Stevenson at 10:00 a.m. before battling St. Mary's (Md.) at noon.
