SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall fell to Swarthmore 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-22) in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday night. With the loss, the Diplomats fell to 9-7, (0-2 CC) while the Garnet improved to 8-4 (1-1, CC).
It was a back-and-forth opening set, as the first was knotted at 9-9. From there, both teams traded off points as the score was tied at 16-16. Swarthmore then scored the next three points to take a 19-16 advantage as the Garnet took the first set 25-16.
The second was close again, with the score tied at 11-11, and again at 16-16. After Jaclyn Laforgia tied the set again at 20-20 off a kill, Swarthmore scored four of the next five to take the set 25-21 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third, F&M was ahead 7-3 before the Garnet followed with an 11-4 spurt to take a 14-11 advantage. From there, the squads traded points off and on as the score was tied 21-21. However, Swarthmore score four of the last five, just like the second set, to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host Ursinus (12:00 p.m.) and Muskingum (4:00 p.m.) in a trimatch.
