LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall downed Bryn Mawr 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-13, 25-17) in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Diplomats improved to 21-8, 2-3 CC, while the Owls fell to 9-9, 0-3 CC.
F&M jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the opening set. The Diplomats continued to outscore Bryn Mawr and extended the lead to 19-12 off a kill from Cassie Garison. The Owls came to within five points at 21-16, but a Jaclyn Laforgia kill gave the Diplomats the 25-17 first-set win and 1-0 advantage in the match.
It was close near the middle of the second set as the score was tied 10-10. From there, Bryn Mawr put together an 11-4 run to take a 21-14 lead and the Owls never looked back and took the set 25-18 to tie the match at 1-1.
In the third, F&M answered back and opened the set on fire, as it was 11-5 early. The Diplomats continued to pour it on, leading by as many as 11 points en route to the 25-13 set win.
The fourth set was tied early at 7-7 before F&M went on a 7-2 spurt to take a 14-9 lead. Bryn Mawr got to within four at 17-13, however seven of the Diplomats' final eight points were kills as F&M won the fourth 25-17 and the match 3-1.
Laforgia paced the offense, finishing with 17 kills and an impressive .455 hitting percentage. Julie Harvey knotched 13 kills and a .375 hitting percentage, while Hubbard totaled 39 assists and 18 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.
The Diplomats return to the court Wednesday when F&M travels to Johns Hopkins for a 7:00 p.m. match.
