LANCASTER, Pa. – Ellie Ezekiel and Julie Harvey were both in double-digits in kills to lead Franklin & Marshall past McDaniel 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-23) in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday evening at the Mayser Center.
With the win, the Diplomats improved to 13-9, 3-4 CC, while the Green Terror dropped to 18-6, 3-4 CC.
F&M started the first set on 9-5 run, capped off by a kill from Rachel Umberger. McDaniel pulled to within three at 10-7, but the Diplomats put together another run, this time a 6-3 spurt to extend the lead to 16-9.
McDaniel battled back and came to within four points at 21-17, but two Ezekiel kills were part of a 4-2 run to end give F&M the 25-19 first-set victory and 1-0 advantage in the match.
The beginning of the second set was tight, as the Diplomats led 9-7. In the middle of the set, F&M extended the lead to 18-10 before dominating the last part of the set, thanks four straight kills from Ezekiel to give F&M the second set at 25-15 as the Diplomats took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was a battle, as the Diplomats lead 10-7. From there, the teams traded points back and forth until an attack error tied the set at 17-17. The Green Terror then took the lead off a 6-2 run at 23-19. However, a relentless F&M offense took over from there, scoring six of the last eight points to take the third 25-23 and the match 3-0.
Ezekiel finished with 16 kills and a .406 hitting percentage, while Harvey notched 13 kills and an impressive .579 hitting percentage for the Diplomats. Caroline Hubbard added 39 assists, and Jaclyn Laforgia (15) and Alyssa Sanchez were each in double-digits in digs.
F&M returns to action on Saturday for a trimatch in Ashland, Va. The Diplomats battle Washingtion and Lee at 1:00 p.m., before taking on the host school, Randolph-Macon, at 3:00 p.m.
