CARLISLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall cruised past Dickinson 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-13) on Saturday afternoon, securing a spot in this week's Centennial Conference (CC) Championships with the victory. The win moved the Diplomats to 14-14 overall and 6-4 in the CC while the loss ended the Red Devils' season at 8-17 and 2-8.
After missing an opportunity to lock down postseason play on Wednesday, F&M was sure to take advantage against Dickinson. The opening set proved to be the closest of the afternoon, but stifling Diplomat defense held the Red Devils to a .091 hitting percentage. F&M logged 12 kills of its own to take the set 25-19.
The Diplomats carried the momentum into the second set, notching 16 kills and hitting .400 as a team while holding Dickinson to a .032 team average. F&M went up early and never looked back, winning 25-11.
The third set saw the Diplomats continue their ruthless play, forcing the Red Devils into a -.048 hitting average. F&M hit .478 in the set, overwhelming Dickinson to win the set and match 25-13.
Ellie Ezekiel led the Diplomats with 15 kills and earned 10 digs to complete the double-double.
With the victory, F&M locked up the No. 5 spot in the conference and a berth in the CC Championships. On Wednesday, the Diplomats will travel to face the still undetermined No. 4 seed in the opening round. Check back with GoDiplomats.com on Monday for updated information and next weekend's game times.
