OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team fell to No. 19 Stevenson 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-15) Thursday evening.
The Diplomats dropped to 16-10 while the Mustangs improved to 29-1.
Stevenson came out fast to start the match quickly taking a 9-2 lead. A kill from Grace Polisano started F&M on a 3-0 run and ended in a Barbara Kapustin kill to bring the Diplomats within six. The Mustangs kept the pace to take the first set 25-16.
The Mustangs looked to pull away early in the second frame, but the Diplomats stayed with them and a kill from Casey Morrow tied the set at 14-14. Stevenson recovered to take the lead again. A service ace from Cassie Garison F&M within two at 21-19, but would not be enough to hold off the Mustangs.
Errors on the part of Stevenson would help F&M early in the third set, but the Mustangs were able to recover and take the lead 16-7. A Grace Maggiore kill and service ace looked to spark some life into the Diplomats, but Stevenson did not falter and finished the set 25-15.
Maggiore led with a double-double of 11 assists and 10 digs and recorded two aces. Kapustin paced the offense with seven kills. Garison followed, tallying six kills, two service aces, and two digs. Christine Yoo recorded four kills and two block assists.
F&M finishes regular season play on Saturday, traveling to No. 17 Johns Hopkins for 1:00 p.m. match.
