A 1997 graduate of Penn State University, Salko earned All-District second team honors at Lake Lehman High School while leading the team to a pair of appearances in the PIAA State Championships.

He began his coaching career in 1998 as Salko served as the head JV and freshmen men's volleyball coach at Lake Lehman leading the squads to perfect records and spots in the State Championship Tournament.

Prior to his appointment at Franklin & Marshall, he served as an assistant coach under Joe Boland at Villa Maria Academy during the 2002 season.
