2011 Women's Cross Country Season Preview

LANCASTER, Pa.-- Over the past three years, the Franklin & Marshall women's cross country team has made great strides, culminating with a ninth place finish at the 2010 Mideast Regional, the highest finish for the Diplomats since a fifth place finish in 1999; and the Diplomats will look to continue on that path in 2011.

Graduation hit the Diplomats hard, with six of the top seven leaving.  The lone returnee from that group is two-time track All-American Sheena Crawley.  Crawley, a junior, qualified for the NCAA XC Championships with a 12th place finish at the Mideast Regional in a time of 22:42.  Despite having a limited distance background, Crawley finished in the top third of the field at the NCAA's.

Grace Thompson, who had three Top 30 finishes in 2010, leads the senior class. Liz Albright, Margaret Capp, and Caitlin Regan, All-Centennial Conference (CC) track athlete who is in her first year running cross country, round out the group.

The junior class, in addition to Crawley, consists of Lauren Dever, Bridget Grogan, and Mary Kate Shelley.  Dever just missed a top 30 finish at the York Invitational with a time of 22:03.

Sophomores Katie Lane and Margi Shah return, looking to improve on their 2010 performances.

Joining the team this year will be Emily Christie, Kimberly Hilfrank, and Jessica Love.

The Diplomats begin their season on September 3, at Millersville.  The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
