YORK, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall dropped a 14-3 non-conference decision at York (Pa.) on Sunday in its regular season finale. The Diplomats conclude the regular season at 23-19, while the Spartans end their season at 22-21.
Aaron Gillette, Alex Vescera, and Matt Mezansky opened the top of the first by drawing three straight walks, before Kevin Shields gave F&M a 1-0 edge with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Gillette from third.
From there it was all Spartans as York notched four runs in the bottom of both the first and second innings to jump out to an 8-1 advantage. The Diplomats chipped away with scores in the third and fourth frames, but York put together another big inning in the fifth with a four-run frame and went on to tally the 14-3 victory.
Shields and Mezansky each notched RBIs for the Diplomats, while six different players registered one hit on the day. Gillette, Vescera, and Pat Andrews each touched home once.
Drew Frankenfield paced the Spartans with three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored, Colin Porter went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored once. Justin Cohen and Jimmy King each added two RBIs in the win.
Alex Guerra (4-3) takes the loss for F&M, while Josh Kohn (5-1) picked up the victory on the mound for the Spartans. Both teams worked deep into their bullpens as a total of 11 pitchers were deployed throughout the contest.
