COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall came away with a commanding 81-62 victory over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. game. The win combined with a loss by Muhlenberg gives F&M a berth in the CC Playoffs.
The Diplomats will travel to Washington on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
F&M had a slight 18-13 lead midway through the first half, before going on a 15-4 run over the next five minutes for a 33-17 advantage with 5:08 on the clock. Zach Ravitz made it 35-22 at 1:22 and a Les Thomas triple at the end of the half gave F&M a 38-25 lead at the break.
Two straight from Ravitz in the early minutes of the second made it 42-25 and a layup by Brian Hines put the Diplomats out front 51-32 with a 15:32 left in the game. The Bears came within six, 51-45, before F&M had a 9-4 spurt to lead 60-50. Ursinus made another run to make it a five-point game, 62-57, with a little more than six minutes left to play, but the Diplomats closed out the game with a 19-5 run to secure the win.
Justin Kupa had a game-high 19 points, hitting 12-of-13 from the line to go along with seven rebounds and six assists. Zach Ravitz had 18 off the bench with six boards, Matt Redhead finished with seven boards and 15 points, while Les Thomas netted 13 for F&M.
F&M had a 39-23 advantage on the glass, and the Bears led in shooting percentage at 48-46-percent.
