Men’s Rowing Set for MARC Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall men's rowing is set to compete at the 10th annual Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championship this Saturday at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry.

MARC Championship History

The Diplomats are looking to continue a string of strong performances at the event after finishing in the top three in four of the last six seasons, including a first-place showing in 2012.

Starting last year and continuing this season, the MARC Championship is open to all competing schools, even non-conference members. Facing top Division I talent a year ago, the Diplomats registered a ninth-place finish with 23 points.

A Look at F&M 

F&M has competed in six events this spring, leading up to this week's competition where a pair of Varsity 8+ boats will take the water for the Diplomats. Last time out, the First Varsity 8+ boat placed fifth in their heat at the Kerr Cup on April 15, with a time of 7:00.80. Only the top four spots advanced to the  Grand and Petite Finals. 

The Second Varsity 8+ boat also took part in the event and impressed with a time of 7:52.99 in their opening heat to reach the Petite Finals, where the group placed fourth with a time of 7:27.20. 

Boat Assignments 

Making up F&M's First Varsity 8+ boat will be Tamir Shemesh (coxswain), James Nelson (8), Aidan Molloy (7), Craig Fanto (6), Jonathan Munro (5), Ben Carroll (4), Trexler Hirn (3), Joel Cannon (2) and Brandon Schneider (1). 

Ryan Paulekas (coxswain), Calvin Coffeen (8), Lukas Grattan (7), Steven Nicodemo (6), Sam Parsons (5), Stuart Cattel (4), Chris Howe-Smith (3), Ngoun Lay (2) and Giuseppe Inglima (1) will make up the Second Varsity 8+ boat for the Diplomats. 

A Look at the Field

Last season, Bucknell won the team title with 114 points, edging Washington College in second with 89. The second-place finish broke a run of four-straight victories for the Shoremen at the event. 

Additional competitors for this weekend include Marietta, St. Mary's (Md.), and George Mason.


The men's Conference Champion will be determined based on the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, Varsity 4+, and Novice/Third Varsity 8+ events. Only "A" boats will receive points in the point-scoring events. To view the point system for this Saturday's event, click here.
