LANCASTER, PA -- The Franklin & Marshall College football team will open the 2005 season on September 3 at Bethany College as the Diplomats' tentative schedule was announced today.
Following the Bethany game, the Diplomats will hit the road to play at Hobart College on September 17 before returning to Lancaster to square off with Carnegie Mellon and Muhlenberg on September 24 and October 1, respectively.
On October 8, Johns Hopkins will host the Diplomats before F&M returns home to face Union College on October 15. The game will mark the fourth all-time between Franklin & Marshall and Union as F&M defeated the Dutchmen in 1987 (34-28 W) and 1988 (17-6 W) on the way to the Centennial Conference title, while Union knocked off the blue and white 17-0 in 1999.
A three game road swing at Dickinson (October 22), McDaniel (October 29) and Ursinus (November 5) will set up the final game of the season as Franklin & Marshall will host Gettysburg on November 12 to conclude the regular season slate of contests.
The Dickinson game marks a change in the Centennial Conference schedule as Franklin & Marshall and the Red Devils traded games in 2004 and 2005. In 2005 and 2006, the Diplomats will travel to Dickinson in exchange for Franklin & Marshall facing Dickinson in Lancaster in 2004 for the second straight year following a 20-14 overtime victory over the Devils at Williamson Field in 2003.
Admission to all F&M home games is free and open to the public.
