LANCASTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College linebacker Joe LoCastro (Jr., Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) has been named the November 7 Centennial Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 28-21 win at home over Ursinus College on November 6.
Against the Bears, he sacked Ursinus College quarterback Vince Gallagher at the two yard line with 7:54 remaining in the fourth quarter to force a fumble which defensive lineman Matt Capone (Sr., Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) recovered in the end zone for the winning TD as F&M knocked off Ursinus 28-21.
Overall, LoCastro dominated the Bears offense recording a team high eight tackles, including two for loss of 17 yards and 1.5 sacks for 17 yards, broke up two passes and forced a fumble to lead to a touchdown as the Diplomats won their sixth game of the season for the first time since a 9-2 record in 1996.
In the Diplomats last two games against Ursinus, he has been a force recording 19 tackles, five TFL of 21 yards, four pass breakups and a forced fumble. In 2003 at Collegeville in a 37-17 win, he made 10 solo stops & assisted on another for 11 tackles, broke up two passes and recorded three tackles-for-loss of four yards.
In the Centennial Conference statistics, he ranks 11th in tackles (54), including nine tackles-for-loss of 38 yards, with 1.5 sacks for 17 yards, three pass breakups and one fumble forced.
