CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Kevin Mollihan exploded for 10 points with five goals and five assists to lead Franklin & Marshall to an 18-10 win over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 10-4, 5-1 CC, while the Shoremen fell to 6-8, 3-3 CC.
An early goal by the host was quickly matched by two from F&M for a 2-1 lead six minutes into the game. The Shoremen tied it at 2-2, and F&M countered with two in the final minute for a 4-2 edge heading into the second.
The teams traded goals in the opening six minutes of the second to make it 5-3, before the Diplomats went on a 10-0 run that spanned into the fourth quarter. Four goals in the final eight minutes of the second made it 9-3 at the break, and the Diplomats racked up six unanswered in the third for a 15-3 score at the end of the quarter. Washington outscored F&M in final frame 7-3 for the 18-10 final.
In addition to Mollihan's offensive outburst, A.J. Rigsby added five goals and Luke Keating had two scores with three assists. Blake Target found the net three times, while Will DeMuth, Shane McBride, and Rob Baxter all struck once.
Washington held a slight 43-40 edge in shots and a 35-29 advantage in ground balls.
F&M heads into the final week of the season looking to secure the top seed in playoffs with a Wednesday game at Dickinson, before hosting Muhlenberg at home on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. game.
