LANCASTER, Pa. — Franklin & Marshall secured the top-seed next week's Centennial Conference (CC) Championship with a 16-5 win over Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon at Shadek Stadium. The Diplomats improved to 12-4, 7-1 CC, while the Mules fell to 10-6, 3-5 CC.
F&M will face Ursinus on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the CC Playoffs.
Prior to the start of Saturday's game, F&M honored its 11-member senior class of George Briggs, Chris Brindisi, Stephen DeSimone, Sam Garges, Scott Hatch, Ellis Llewellyn, Shane McBride, Tucker McBride, Tommy O'Connor, John Sommi, and Daniel Zlevor.
F&M owned the game from the start and took a 5-1 lead at the end first quarter. The Diplomats continued to dominate with a 6-2 second for an 11-3 lead at the break.
The pace slowed a little in the third with the Mules getting the first goal of the quarter, before F&M finished with three straight for 14-4 advantage heading into the final frame. Action slowed in the fourth with the Diplomats outscoring the Mules 2-1.
Luke Keating paced the offense with four goals and four assists, while Blake Target A.J. Rigsby and Kevin Mollihan all had three tallies. Jack Beatty had a score and a helper, while Aaron Abrams and Stephen DeSimone found the net once. Shane McBride dished out two assists, with Ronan Garcia, John Sommi, Tucker McBride, George Briggs, and Connor Mosebrook all ended with an assist each.
F&M led in shots 52-19, ground balls 23-20, and went 23-for-23 in clear attempts.
