LANCASTER, Pa. -- Eric Elicker and Charlie Welch received Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Week honors, announced Monday. Elicker earned it for his offensive performance while Welch was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Elicker bent a free kick to the far right post for the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over No. 13 Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Welch had two end clears in the Hopkins and has been a constant force in the backfield, as the Diplomats have only given up one goal in the last four contests.
The win, coupled with Muhlenberg's 1-0 win over Haverford and Gettysburg and 2-2 draw with Dickinson, leaped the Diplomats from seventh to third in the conference standings with two games to play. It also gave the F&M seniors a 2-0-2 record against Hopkins. The win also marks the first time since 1993 that F&M has defeated Hopkins in Baltimore.
The Diplomats close of their regular season this week when they host Ursinus Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Friday when Dickinson visits Tylus Field at 7:30 p.m.
