LANCASTER, Pa. - Five Franklin & Marshall men's soccer players were named to the Scrapyard Classic All-Tournament Team after guiding the Diplomats to the tournament title with victories over Medaille and Stevenson. Sophomore forward Ben Beaver, freshman midfielder Sam Lane, senior defender Rob Hassler, freshman defender Chris Scott and junior goalkeeper Zach Fernberger each nabbed all-tournament honors.
Beaver, Lane and Scott each played vital roles in sparking the F&M offensive attack throughout the tournament. Beaver tallied a score in both contest's, including the game-winner late in regulation of the Diplomats' 2-1 win over Medaille last Friday. Scott began his collegiate career in impressive fashion with a goal and the assist on Beaver's game-winner against Medaille, while Lane added a goal and an assist in F&M's 3-0 victory over Stevenson on Saturday.
Hassler and Fernberger served as anchors for an F&M defense that surrendered just one goal in the tournament. Hassler, a centerback and team captain, kept the Diplomats organized in the backfield, while Fernberger totaled four saves and posted his first career shutout against Stevenson.
