CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Jared Bomba finished with two helpers as No. 23 Franklin & Marshall blanked DeSales 3-0 for its 10th shutout of the season in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening. The Diplomats improved to 9-2-1 while the Bulldogs fell to 7-6 on the season.
After a scoreless first half in which neither team was able to generate much offense, F&M took full control in the second.
In the 48th minute, Ben Beaver sent the ball across the goalmouth where Derek Pawlush tapped it in to put F&M up 1-0. Beaver netted his ninth goal of the season in the 65th when Sam Lane fed Bomba and Bomba's shot hit the post, went back into play, where Beaver was there to clean up the rebound with a shot to give F&M a 2-0 advantage.
Beaver took over second place on the F&M all-time goal-scoring list with 41 career goals. He is now just three shy of tying Scott Runyon's school mark of 44.
F&M kept the pressure on the entire second half, taking five corners and outshooting the Bulldogs 16-3 in the final frame.
Connor Finn put the game out of reach when he buried a Bomba pass in the 71st minute for a 3-0 F&M lead.
T.J. White recorded two saves in the win, while Colin Sulpizo took the loss.
The Diplomats outshot DeSales 25-5 and held a 10-2 advantage in corners.
