SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A dominant defensive effort that saw No. 4 Franklin & Marshall surrender just one shot on goal, propelled a 1-0 shutout of Swarthmore on Saturday.

The Centennial Conference (CC) road tilt was the Diplomats (10-1, 4-0 CC) ninth straight win while the Garnet dropped to 7-2-1, 1-2-1 CC.

In the 27th minute, F&M's fifth shot of the game hit pay dirt as Alex Lalovic slid a ball to the goal box that was tapped into the back of the net by Alex Martinez – his first of the season – for the 1-0 advantage.

The Diplomats surrendered their only shot on goal in the eighth minute and then shut down Swarthmore throughout the remainder of the afternoon as the Garnet managed just six total shots in the game.

F&M tallied 11 shots and held a 3-2 margin on corners. Lalovic led the offense with three shots, followed by Christian Avila Neres and A.J. Kopacz with two each.

Goalkeeper Christopher Amoruso turned back the only shot he faced for his fourth shutout of the season to improve to 10-1, while Max Kral (3-1-1) suffered the loss after a three-save effort in net.

The Diplomats return to non-conference competition on Wednesday, hosting Eastern at Tylus Field at 7:00 p.m.
