Bates Avenges January Loss

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall fell 6-3 to Bates in Sunday's 11-12 playoff at the College Squash Association's Team Championships at Princeton Sunday night. The victory for Bates (16-8) avenged a 5-4 loss to F&M (15-6) at the Yale Round Robin in January.

The 11th ranking is a five place improvement for F&M under second-year coach, John White.

F&M swept the second through fourth position in a match that was as tight as the first meeting. After falling behind 2-0 in a pair of 7-9 games, Chris Gagnier (13-8) battled back sandwiching a 10-9 squeaker between a pair of 9-5 games at the fourth position. At three, Sadiq Madraswala (13-5) swept Jordan Greenberg, 9-6, 9-5, 9-2, while No. 2 Gabriel de Melo (13-2) remained unbeaten on the weekend with a 3-0 (9-3, 9-7, 9-7) sweep of William Katz.

Only one Diplomat fell 3-0 in the loss and two defeats went five games.

F&M is now 6-7 in matches against Bates.
